THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE

The Bowen technique is a manual therapy involving gentle, but precise manipulations of the soft tissue. The motions applied are rolling motions using the therapist’s index finger and thumb over muscles, tendons and nerves with minimum pressure. The Bowen motion, which is different and unique, ensures a specific effect on the membranes of muscles, tendons and internal organs, and sends a signal to the brain that something is not right with this part of the body. The brain responds to the stimulation by relaxing the surrounding muscles, which in turn leads to better blood flow and therefore faster and better processes of regeneration. The fact that the Bowen technique works through the membranes enveloping our entire body and that the treatment stimulates the points on almost the entire surface of the body makes Bowen technique a holistic therapy. It is due to its holistic healing process that the Bowen technique is applied for a number of health problems. These are: diseases and conditions of the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments), nervous system (neurological disorders, paresis and paralyses, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, dystonic syndromes in children), as well as stress-related problems (insomnia, anxiety, headache, indigestion). The technique is very gentle and has no age restrictions – it can be used on newborns, as well as elderly individuals.
